Kansas City Royals to Give Out Condiment Bobbleheads in 2013

Written by Joe Lucia

Just when you think bobblehead giveaways at MLB stadiums couldn't get any more ridiculous, the Kansas
City Royals are upping the ante a bit in 2013. This season, the Royals will be having three separate promotions giving away bobbleheads of their racing condiments: ketchup, mustard, and relish.
The ketchup bobblehead will be given out on May 25th against the Angels, the mustard bobblehead will be given out on June 22nd against the White Sox, and the relish bobblehead will be given out on July 20th against the Tigers. It's worth noting that the Royals only have four bobblehead promotions planned for the 2013 season, and three of them are these condiment bobbleheads. The other one, which is the only one featuring an actual baseball player, is a Billy Butler Silver Slugger themed giveaway on May 4th against the White Sox.

So despite trading for James Shields and Wade Davis, despite going all-in with a young core of players, the Royals promotional team will be focusing on mid-game entertainment this year as opposed to the players that the fans are paying their hard-earned money to see. Good job, good effort.

On Tuesday, the Royals announced their promotions for the upcoming season, and it’s safe to say that there will be a big crowd June 8 at Kauffman Stadium.
The Astros are in town, but it’s the Retro Powder Blue Jersey giveaway that will pack them in. The first 10,000 fans will receive the jerseys, and if history is any guide, fans will get to the park early to snag a jersey.
Other notable promotions:
For the May 4 game against the White Sox, the first 10,000 fans will receive a Billy Butler Bobblehead that will commemorate his winning the 2012 Silver Slugger Award. The team also will have three separate days in which it will give fans a bobblehead from the participants in the Hot Dog Derby Race: Ketchup, Mustard and Relish.
Mother’s Day is May 12, and the Royals will have a special giveaway before the game against the Yankees. The first 10,000 women will receive a Royals Pashmina Scarf.
On July 19, the Celebrity Classic Game will be held. Local celebrities Paul Rudd, Rob Riggle and Jason Sudeikis will play host to the annual Big Slick Celebrity Classic Game at The Little K before the Royals face the Detroit Tigers.
The Salute to the Negro Leagues is Aug. 24 when the Royals face the Nationals. The Royals will wear Kansas City Monarchs uniforms and the Nationals will don jerseys from the Washington Homestead Grays. The first 10,000 fans will be given a Kansas City Monarchs Vintage T-Shirt.
T-Shirt Tuesdays are back also. The six days are May 28, June 4, June 25, July 23, Aug. 13 and Sept. 17.
Buck Night, Family Fun Night and Firework Fridays all return as well. Go to Royals.com/promotions for more details.

14 Year Old Boy Creates The Wold's Largest Bobblehead

A 14 Year Old Boy Creates The Wold's Largest Bobblehead

Henry Elmer showing off his bobblehead creation.
Yes, a young boy (Henry Ermer) with obviously too much time on his hands created this monstrosity using papier-mache and chicken wire. It's actually the largest bobblehead in the world at 16ft but it hasn't made its way into the Guiness Books yet. The record is currently held by a 11 foot tall bobble in the form of Chuck Woolery
It started out as a Jerry Seinfeld look-alike but has since taken a more general male form. He says it took about a year to build. "Last summer, I hadn't done anything except hang out and watch TV and I thought I should probably do something," said Henry, who is starting Edward R. Murrow High School. "The world's largest bobblehead was my favorite record in the Guinness Book of World Records, so I decided to try and top it." Well we say "good for you kid." At least he spends his time doing something somewhat constructive rather than getting into trouble. No matter how bizarre it may be. Hey, this gives me an idea. What if we offer the option to have a lifesize bobbleheads done? Probably a bit extreme.
