4 Tips To Discovering Greatness

This is a topic I've been wanting to share because I feel it's important so if you have a moment I would like to share my thoughts with you. I have a question for you. Do you know what your truly gifted at? Many of us go our entire lives without discovering our true potential. Each one of us has a purpose in life. Whether it be to perform a major operation and save a life or to paint the next great masterpiece and bring beauty into the world, I believe that each and every one of us is here for a reason. We each make our own contribution to the world be it a positive one or negative. And guess what? Just because  your gift is not well recognized like say being an NBA player for example, doesn't mean it's any less important. It can be something as simple as making people smile when you enter a room or the ability to be open minded to others. There's some people who recognize their talent but feel it's nothing substantial. Then there's others who never really take the time to find out who they really are and what their purpose is in life. Sadly, there are many who could end up being major successes, but never pursued their dream. If you want to find out what it is your good at, there's a few things you must consider.

1. You Are Good Enough - It begins with self esteem. Never use the word "can't." When you tell yourself you can't do something you automatically shut your mind off to any possibilities of succeeding which means the mind will not ponder ways of discovering how you "can." I use to have this problem when I was younger. I wasn't the most popular kid in school and I stayed to myself a lot. My mentality was one of hopelessness and despair and  I told myself I wouldn't amount to anything much. But you have to break away from that. There will always be someone to tell you that you won't be able to achieve something and it's only a pipe dream. They never tried so they don't want you to try to succeed either. You also don't want to compare your life to someone else. You don't know what they had to go through to get where they are. Nothing worthwhile is easily obtainable in life.

2. Motivation -  Life is hard and the odds seem to be against you constantly. Believe me I know, but you have to be motivated. Without a sense of ambition, you won't have the drive needed to discover your potential. A great way to motivate yourself  is to read or watch success stories of people who were in the same position your in and ended up succeeding. Another great way is to read self help literature. Don't laugh! These books can be very helpful. Two books I recommend are Self-Esteem: A Proven Program of Cognitive Techniques, and Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki.

3. Explore -  Now that your feeling good about yourself and leaning more towards "can" rather than "cannot," it's time to find out exactly what it is you want to do. This is going to take some time and soul searching. What do you enjoy the most? What were some interests that you had growing up? Any curiosities you might have had that you just let drift away from your mind instead of pondering? Maybe you know what your good at but just never had the drive to excel in it. Or maybe certain circumstances in your life didn't allow you to pursue your dream which happens quite often. Just remember the old cliche, "when there's a will, there's a way." And if you don't believe me consider this scenario. Tyler Perry was a homeless man sleeping on the streets before he became what he is today. How did he do it? Strong motivation and a determination not to let his circumstances get the best of him.

If you don't know where to start, a good idea would be to take a piece of paper and jot down everything you think you might have an interest in. Then one at a time explore those interests. Research them and give them a try. You'd be surprised at what you end up enjoying! Once you find something, put everything you have into it and do your very best.

4. Maintain - One of the toughest things to deal with when pursuing something is to maintain motivation. There's always going to be speed bumps and failures along the way. You can't succeed without failure. I've had three unsuccessful businesses before I started Face It Figures! You have to be determined no matter what the cost. Try to keep positive people around you and go back to those success stories you've read when you feel you can't go on. Just keep trying.

In conclusion, everyone has a purpose but it's up to you to discover it or improve upon it. If you have the gift of making people happy when their in your company, then hold on to that positive energy. You may not think it's much but if you can wake up and know your making people happy your making a difference in the world. That's one less person walking around miserable everyday. If your good at drawing, see how far you can go with it and let others enjoy your work. Everyone has a unique quality and the bottom line is that you have to take one day at a time and try to remain positive.
